What is Capital One Race for KidsTM?
Capital One Race for Kids™ is an adventure race with a unique twist. Teams of four will race around their community, solving clues and participating in kid-themed challenges and activities.

What are the requirements to register for the event?
In order to participate, you should build a team of four with all team members at least 18 years of age.
How do you register for the event?
Your team can register for the event on the
Capital One Race for Kids™ website under
Get Involved. When registering your team, you will be asked to select your city.
Once you register your team, can you change your team members if necessary?
Yes, once the team captain registers the team, he/she will be given a login and details. The team members can be changed up until the race date.
What if, by the day of the race, our team has less than fourmembers?
The Checkpoint activities are recommended for a team of four, but your team can still participate in the race. However, only a complete team of four members will be eligible to win prizes.
How much does participating in the race cost?
Participants will pay a registration fee between $10 and $25 (depending on the city). There is also a team fundraising minimum amount of $360 - $500 to take part in the race (depending on the city).
I can no longer participate. Can the registration fee be refunded?
A full refund of the registration fee will be provided up to 30 days prior to the event. No refunds will be offered within 30 days of the event. None of the fundraised dollars can be refunded.
What if my team is unable to meet its minimum fundraising goal of $360?
You will be allowed to participate in the race, but will be ineligible to win a prize. Funds can be raised up until 24 hours prior to the start time on Race Day.
What do I get for registering?
Upon registering for the Capital One Race for Kids™, you will receive the following:
- Capital One Race for Kids™ drawstring bag, numbered bibs, 1 race sheet and map
- Access to the Capital One Race for Kids™ Celebration
- This priceless experience of a lifetime with memories to share for years to come
Do I need to have previous experience to volunteer for Capital One Race for KidsTM?
No, you do not need previous experience in order to volunteer. Thanks for helping out!
Is there a minimum commitment of hours required to volunteer for Capital One Race for KidsTM?
Yes. You must sign up for a full shift.
Can I volunteer with a friend or as part of a group?
Yes. Make sure to indicate on your volunteer sign-up form with whom you would like to work. We'll do our best to accommodate these requests, but due to limited availability, we cannot guarantee you will be placed together.
Can youth (under the age of 18 years old) volunteer at Capital One Race for KidsTM?
Yes. However, volunteers under the age of 18 years old must volunteer with a parent, guardian or Club staff member. Both youth and parent/guardian must apply to volunteer online and sign up for the same shift in order to be accepted to volunteer.

What should we wear?
We recommend that participants wear comfortable shoes and clothing. Waterproof gear is highly recommended in case of rain.
Can we seek help with the Checkpoints during the race?
You are allowed to ask for directional help from passers-by on the street or use a phone to call a friend. If you cannot figure out a Checkpoint clue, accomodations will be made to provide help but will come at a time penalty. If your team is struggling at a particular Checkpoint and is unable to complete a Challenge, a Checkpoint volunteer will provide your team with an alternate task in order to receive your Checkpoint Token.
Do I need to be athletic or in good shape to run the race?
No, you don't need to be athletic, as the race is comprised of a combination of mental and physical challenges.
Are we allowed to take transportation like a car, taxi, bus, etc. and will a bus pass be provided?
Capital One Race for Kids™ is designed for participants on foot only. Public transportation is allowed depending on your location. Please refer to your local event page for more information.
How well do I need to know the city I am participating in?
It's certainly a benefit to know your city well, but a strategic, resourceful team can do just as well as a team who knows all the ins and outs of the city. Also, if you get stuck you can call a friend or ask members of the general public to help you out.
Is there a pre-set course that participants need to follow?
No. You can visit the Checkpoints in any order you like, as long as you visit a minimum of 10 Checkpoints. Some strategic advice: Map out your plan!
How do I find out the exact location of each Checkpoint?
Your team will receive a Checkpoint clue sheet on race day. You will need to solve each clue in order to determine the specific Checkpoint locations. There will also be signs set up at each Checkpoint to help guide the way.
What happens if I can’t find a Checkpoint?
Don't give up! Use all your resources. Feel free to call family and friends, form alliances with other teams, or ask people on the street for assistance. In some communities there will be a helpline to call for assistance and this information will be communicated to participants.
How long does Capital One Race for KidsTM last?
The race is designed to be completed in roughly 2 to 3 hours.
How do I win Capital One Race for KidsTM?
Teams will receive a token upon completing each checkpoint. The fastest team to solve the puzzle and arrive at the Finish Line as a team with 10 Checkpoint Tokens will win the race.
How do I qualify for prizes?
Prizes will be awarded to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd-placed teams. Visit your local event page to find out more about prizing in your community.

What is the Capital One Race for KidsTM celebration?
As a reward for completing the race, all teams are invited to the Capital One Race for Kids™ celebration. During this celebration prizes will be presented and participants will have a chance to view photos from the race.

How do I receive a charitable tax receipt?
If you are donating online, an electronic tax receipt will be e-mailed to you email within 10 minutes. For offline donations, BGCC will need to process your donation forms and will then mail your tax receipt to the address indicated on your registration form. This can take up to 30 days after we receive your paperwork.
When are tax receipts sent out?
Online donations will receive an electronic tax receipt immediately. For offline donations, BGCC will issue tax receipts within 20-30 business days of receiving your donation form, along with the funds collected.
What assurance do I have that my information is secure?
Boys and Girls Clubs of Canada (BGCC) adheres to guidelines that have been defined by the Government of Canada through the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Document Act (PIPEDA). BGCC websites that require personal information have an online security feature that protects your information. Refer to our
privacy policy for more information.
What do I do if I don’t receive a tax receipt?
If you have not received a tax receipt 30 days after the race, please
contact your local Boys and Girls Club.
Do I get a tax receipt for paying my registration fee?
No. Boys and Girls Clubs of Canada is not able to issue a tax receipt for registration fees, only donations.
For what will the funds raised by each team be used?
The money raised from
Capital One Race for Kids™ will go towards
after-school programs at your local Boys and Girls Clubs.
What do I do with my cash donations?
You can accept cash donations on behalf of your donors and make a donation using your own personal credit card online. The tax receipt must be made out to the actual donor. Alternatively, cash donations and forms indicating your team name and registration number can be mailed to the BGCC National office at:

I have collected both online and offline donations. How do I ensure my money is directed to the right account?
Download a pledge form from the Capital One Race for Kids™ website and fill in your registration number and personal details. If you have already started to collect donations online, make sure that the name and address on the form match your online record.
Can I make a donation if I am not a participant in Capital One Race for Kids?
Yes, you can make a donation to an individual and/or team. You can also make a general donation to your local Boys and Girls Club. Visit your city page to donate directly to a Boys and Girls Club in your community. We appreciate your support!
